Process and timelines after registering with UpGrid. Once you've signed up, UpGrid takes care of the entire coordination.
Important to know: registering your energy community with the grid operator doesn't always happen right away, there are two scenarios: An active community already exists in your region: you simply join it. In this case, the lead time until registration is typically just 1–2 weeks.
There isn't yet a suitable community in your municipality: your registration goes onto a waiting list until the requirements for setting one up are met. This requires at least one matching counterpart at the same substation, meaning at least one production and one consumption metering point (or prosumer). In addition, the installed production capacity must be at least 5% of the community's connection capacity in practice, this is usually met. As soon as enough suitable participants have registered, the process continues automatically.
Before registration, we clarify technical feasibility: we review the grid topology together with your local grid operator. We then submit the registration by law, the grid operator has up to three months to put the LEG into operation. This deadline is set by the grid operator; UpGrid has no influence over it.
You can check the current status of your registration and your community, as well as the next steps, at any time at app.upgrid.ch. Tip: share the invitation links from your dashboard within your municipality, the more suitable participants register, the faster your community will launch.
In the meantime, your current electricity provider will continue to supply you seamlessly, so there's no gap in service.
